5 Faith-filled and Fun Easter Activities | Miami Family Photographer
From Easter bunny visits to egg hunts to goodie-filled baskets, there’s no shortage of fun activities for kids at Easter. Once I became a mom, I had a heightened realization that all the excitement surrounding Easter had very little to do with the true reason why we celebrate— the resurrection of Jesus!
At first, I struggled to find age-appropriate activities that taught my very sensitive children about the cross. But after endless Pinterest/internet searches, recommendations from family, and some trial and error, we have settled into several traditions we do as a family that my kids love which also help them keep their eyes focused on the cross and not on the bunny (although he definitely makes a visit to our house, too!). Here are a few of our faves:
Resurrection Eggs
What better way to teach your children the story of Easter than through an Easter egg hunt?! These 12 eggs are filled with small items which represent important events from Palm Sunday to the empty tomb. As they open the eggs, explain the significance of the item. For older kids, have them tell it in their own words. My family still participates in traditional Easter egg hunts later in the day, but the Resurrection Eggs are our favorite way to start off the morning.

2. Easter Tomb Cookies/Resurrection Rolls
No holiday is complete without a yummy treat, and both of these desserts are delicious AND meaningful (and as an added bonus, fun to make!). Resurrection Rolls are easy to do and require very few ingredients. Simply dip your “marshmallow Jesus” in butter and cinnamon and place him in a “tomb” made out of a crescent roll. After baking, when you bite into the roll, you will find that Jesus is gone. The tomb is empty! Empty Tomb Cookies take a bit more work and ingredients but are great for older kids. Each step of the baking process relates to a Bible verse. Here’s the best part: you place the unbaked “tomb” cookies in the oven overnight and turn the oven off. When the kids wake up in the morning, have them bite into a tomb— it will be hollow! It’s a true Easter morning activity that helps shift your kids’ focus onto the true joy of Easter Sunday.

3. Easter Story Snack Mix
Food is the way to my kids’ heart, so I have another delicious snack to share with you! This Easter story snack mix is a super simple trail mix where each item represents something related to Christ’s death and resurrection (pretzel sticks for the cross, craisins to represent the blood of Jesus, etc). I love this snack mix for younger children because it is a gentle way to introduce the heavy topic of crucifixion. You can set this trail mix out at your Easter brunch or put little bags together at your next play date. When my kids weren’t in school, we used to fill tins of the mix and pass them out to our neighbors with a handmade card— there are so many ways to spread the Easter love!

4. King of Kings Movie
So technically, this isn’t a family tradition of ours yet because the movie doesn’t come out until this Easter, haha, but I am certain it will become one! While Christmas has hundreds of movies to celebrate the season, Easter is really lacking in the area of family Easter movies. King of Kings is an adaptation of Charles Dicken’s book “The Life of our Lord”, and it tells the story of Easter through the lens of Charles Dickens and his son. The previews remind me a lot of the Christmas movie “The Star” so I am certain it is going to be a family favorite and the perfect way to welcome in the Easter season for years to come.

Bonus Activities!
So there you have it— four ways to bring the light and joy of Jesus into your Easter celebrations. As an added bonus, here are a few other faith-based Easter activities my kids have loved:
Art Hub for Kids: Empty tomb and Cross drawings
Savvy Sensory: No Easter basket is complete without one of these sensory kits!
Prayer Rocks: Although not totally Easter-based, this is a great way to teach children how to pray God’s word and remind them about the importance of prayer
Bible/Devotionals: We always put a faith-based book in their Easter basket. Here are a few we love (the last one is what they are getting this year).
3-Minute Devotions for Girls - if anyone else lives in the car like we do, this is great for the kids to read aloud on the way to school. They have one for boys, teens, even adults!
I do hope you will try one or two of these activities this Easter season and let me know how it went! And if you have any fun Easter traditions you do as a family, I’d love to hear them!
